A FEW MILESTONES
In 2021, SCLA secured three significant major gifts. A $5,500,000 grant arranged by California State Senator Maria Elena Durazo from the State of California and a significant commitment of $4,000,000 total, from The Ahmanson Foundation, helped us launch a drive for an SCLA ‘Home Improvement Project’ that includes raising the roof on its headquarters facility and transforming it into an operating sound stage that converts into a live theater. Significant funds are still needed, but we are two-thirds towards our goal. Please reach out if you are interested in supporting our ‘Home Improvement Project.’ Ben@ShakespeareCenter.org
In 2020, SCLA and the Foundation for the California Veterans Home West Los Angeles began designing a recreational venue that will include a veterans garden and outdoor film, concert, and theatrical amphitheater. The venue will be a focal point for Veterans in Art, SCLA’s job training program for veterans interested in production services.
In 2018, SCLA celebrated the 25th anniversary of its White House Awarded Will Power to Youth, arts-based employment program for disadvantaged youth.
In 2015, SCLA celebrated 25 years of Simply Shakespeare, an annual fundraiser hosted for many years by Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks.
In 2012, SCLA Launched Veterans In Art. In 2011, SCLA’s Founder, Ben Donenberg, was selected by U.S. Secretary of Defense to participate as a member of the Joint Civilian Orientation Conference where he was briefed and participated in training exercises with all five branches of the armed services.
